The construction of the main pop-up
bird was copied with little modification from Encyclopedia Prehistorica
Dinosaurs by Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart. The prototype came out a little better than the one used
on the card that goes to show whatever was learned on the second
iteration were things not to do. The adjustments made ultimately did
not improve the bird.
The second bird was more difficult. It was modified from a dinosaur,
and frankly, it's still not clear in my mind exactly how those crimp
mechanism behave. The result of their movement never matches my intent.
It's all very unpredictable and largely a matter of trial and error.
Hopefully as I keep using the crimp mechanism I'll come to understand
better what works and what doesn't. I'm amazed at the ridiculous errors
I keep making. As a result, that bird has two prototypes for a total of
three iterations, and I'm still not completely satisfied with the
result. |
